Our physicians are national leaders in the field of UFE and are faculty members at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. We have trained many of the doctors that perform UFE through our Interventional Radiology fellowship.
UFE is an innovative procedure utilizing well established embolization techniques to treat symptomatic uterine fibroids. Indications include:
- Very heavy and prolonged monthly periods, sometimes with clots
- Frequent occurrence of soiling events
- Anemia
- Pelvic pain or pressure
- Pressure on the bladder which leads to a constant need to urinate or incontinence
- Pain in the back of the legs
- Pain during sexual intercourse
- Pressure on the bowel which can lead to constipation and/or bloating
- An enlarged abdomen which may be mistaken for weight gain or pregnancy
The procedure is performed by vascular interventional radiologist skilled with manipulation of catheters and other small tools. More information about the procedure is availabe at Ask 4 UFE and The Society of Interventional Radiology.
